Orlando Vilchez Lazo, a 37-year-old resident of San Mateo, has been arrested by authorities and charged with four counts of rape amongst other charges while he posed as a ride-share driver.

Police have been investigating a series of sexual assaults occurring around the San Francisco area since at least 2013. The perpetrator, now identified as Orlando Lazo, would prey on intoxicated women waiting for ride-share drivers to bring the home. He would allegedly wait outside of bars with the direct intent to commit rape. Over the past five years, Lazo has been implicated in at least four attacks.

Investigators initially believed the suspect may be employed by a ride-sharing company, but they have not yet confirmed whether Lazo was impersonating a driver or legitimately employed. Detectives in the San Francisco area were looking into various rideshare vehicles when Lazo happened to be pulled over. Officers asked the suspect for a DNA sample. Two days later, lab results confirmed a DNA match between Lazo and evidence left from a prior sexual assault. The suspect was later arrested and transported to the San Francisco County Jail. His bail has been set at an incredible $4 million.

Lazo is being charged with rape, assault with the intent to commit rape, kidnapping, sexual penetration with a foreign object and false imprisonment.

Authorities believe more victims may have been targeted by the suspect, and they want these individuals to come forward with their stories. Victims are being asked to call the Special Victims Unit at 415-553-1521 with their information.
