The Patch reports that a man in Texas has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for sex trafficking. The jury read the sentence in court on Friday in Austin for Steven Charles Sumlin, 41, of Converse, Texas.
Sumlin was convicted of first-degree felony charges for sex trafficking activity involving both a 20-year-old woman and a 16-year-old. He was spotted in a gym in San Antonio last year with the teen when employees realized she was on a missing person poster and notified police. Prosecutors found evidence that he had recruited the teenager online after she ran away from home. He then assaulted her and talked her into sex trafficking.
Sumlin was also arrested in 2015 for aggravated promotion of prostitution. He was allegedly acting as the head of a prostitution ring operating out of San Antonio, Austin and Dallas.
