The Associated Press reports that Bill Cosby’s bid for a new trial and sentence hearing has been rejected. In Pennsylvania, Cosby’s trial judge rejected his requests and told him to file any further appeals with the state’s Superior Court.
Cosby was sentenced to 3 to 10 years in state prison after being convicted this year of drugging and molesting a woman in 2004. Cosby’s attorneys outlined trial errors that caused them to file for the new trial and sentencing, but the judge denied the actor’s requests. An opinion was not attached with the opinion that was filed on Tuesday, and the judge considered the response submitted from prosecutors in his decision as well.
Defense attorneys say that the sentence handed to Cosby is harsh and that charges should have been filed before his arrest in 2015. Cosby, 81, is serving time near Philadelphia in a state prison.
