From November 27th to December 2nd, officers within the Polk County Sheriff’s Department conducted a sting called “Operation Naughty—Not Nice II.” The operation’s goal was to locate and arrest potential human traffickers, prostitutes and sexual predators. Overall, the operation successfully landed 103 arrests.
This investigation centered around illegal online advertisements for sexual favors or services. Some officers posed as prostitutes online and waited for suspects to solicit them for sexual work, while other officers scoured the web for advertisements posted by real prostitutes. 54 suspects were arrested for prostitution after posting such ads, and 29 were arrested attempting to solicit prostitutes for service.
Some of the suspects were particularly disturbing. Many were accused with attempting to solicit sex from minors. One of the more notable arrests was Edwin Lopez, a 26-year-old resident of Kissimmee. The suspect, who is being charged with lewd batter and using a two-way communication device to commit a felony, attempted to meet up with a minor to show them “how to have sex.”
Anthony Camacho, a 23-year-old resident of Orlando, was caught driving a 17-year-old child to a location for sex. The child was reportedly a runaway from Virginia.
William Welch, a 49-year-old resident of Florida, attempted to meet up with a minor for sex. He was travelling to the decoy location where officers were standing by when he suddenly changed his mind and left the area. According to a detective, a warrant has not yet been issued for this suspect, but they are watching him because they believe he is grooming children for abuse. If anyone has information pertaining to Welch, then they are being asked to reach out to the police at 863-577-1600.
