TheState.com reports that a shooting took place on Saturday at the Columbia Place mall parking lot in South Carolina. According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, shots were fired between two groups of people in the lot at approximately 2:40 p.m.

One of the injured men stumbled into the mall food court and collapsed. He was shot in his upper body and suffered life-threatening injuries. The second victim of the shooting was shot in the lower body and injuries were not life-threatening.

The mall continued to operate as normal, and customers were eating in the food court next to the crime scene tape where blood was still on the floor. A trail could be seen from the door to the middle of the mall, where bandages and gloves were left by emergency medical personnel.

One eyewitness did not hear any gunshots but saw people running in the mall. Patrons first ran from the injured man who entered the mall, but employees and security eventually went to help him.

Columbia Place is one of four traditional malls in Columbia. The county government is purchasing part of the mall to relocate some government offices there.

No descriptions of the vehicles involved in the incident were available, but police are asking any witnesses or anyone with any information to call 888-CRIME-SC.
