Early on the morning of November 11th, Midlothian Police officers were called out to respond to a shooting occurring inside of Manny’s Blue Room Bar. The shooter had allegedly been asked to leave by security before he returned with a gun. The drunken patron opened fire and wounded at least three individuals.

Thankfully, a 26-year-old security guard was also armed. He was able to successfully take down the shooter. Jemel Roberson, the security guard, pinned the suspect to the ground and awaited officers to arrive on scene.

In a horrifying turn of events, two Midlothian police officers arrived at the scene looking for the shooter. They witnessed the black security guard brandishing his weapon at the suspect and mistook him for the suspect. Roberson was shot by the officer and was later pronounced deceased upon arrival to a hospital.

This horrible mistake is not being taken lightly by the community. One witness who was at the bar, Adam Harris, spoke to news outlets about the situation. He explained, “they basically saw a black man with a gun and killed him.” The details surrounding the shooting have not yet been confirmed by authorities who are investigating the situation.

Four other victims were injured by gunfire during the ordeal. One of the wounded individuals is currently the primary suspect in the shooting, and his identity has not yet been released. Police confirmed that there are pending charges against the alleged shooter, but the suspect is currently in the hospital receiving treatment for his injuries.
