Rand Paul, the extremely outspoken Senator from Kentucky, recently gave his thanks to the U.S. Capitol Police for keeping his family safe.

The U.S. Capitol Police have not yet released details about the incident, but Senator Paul has confirmed several facts to both Fox News and constituents listening to a recent speech. While speaking at a public event in Kentucky, Senator Paul confirmed to listeners that an individual explicitly made threats to kill him and his family. According to Paul, the person threatened to chop them up with an axe. Thankfully, the police have issued an arrest warrant against the suspect, and investigators are determined to prevent further violence against the congressman.

Senator Paul expressed his frustrations saying, “it’s just horrendous that we have to deal with things like this.” The increasingly hostile political atmosphere has greatly increased these threats of violence against politicians. Back in November, Rand Paul’s neighbor made headline news for attacking the politician. During the brutal attack, Paul broke six ribs and suffered multiple other injuries. The attack was labeled an isolated incident and not motivated by politics, but the neighbor was still ordered to pay the politician’s family retributions.

Paul was also present during the highly publicized attack on Republican congressmen during last summer’s baseball game. The attack, carried out by James Hodgkinson, left several congressional staff members with gunshot wounds.

This most recent threat comes just days after a credible threat on the life of FCC Chairman Ajit Pai and his family. The growing tension in the political atmosphere have given rise to increasing threats of violence, but police are working hard to ensure that politicians are safe.
