NYDailyNews.com reports that a former Penn State fraternity member has pleaded guilty to nine charges in the hazing death of Tim Piazza. Ryan Burke, 21, pleaded guilty to nine charges after others had been dismissed against him. Four hazing misdemeanors were included in the remaining charges.
Piazza drank too much alcohol at the age of 19 at a hazing event at Beta Theta Pi fraternity on Penn State’s campus last year and died after a series of falls. Fraternity members did not seek help immediately and did not take serious measures to call for help.
Burke allegedly gave Piazza a bottle of vodka at the party in question.
25 other former students face charges related to Piazza’s death. Piazza is from Lebanon, N.J. A judge has already thrown out involuntary manslaughter and other serious charges against five of these defendants.
Burke awaits sentencing on July 31.
