Bianca Paola Machuca, a 25-year-old resident of Hyattsville, was detained by police under the suspicion of driving while under the influence.

The suspect was spotted by a Montgomery County Police Officer while he was traveling on University Boulevard West. He noticed the vehicle appeared to have a large object underneath it, so he attempted to make eye contact with the female driver.

When the driver noticed the officer, she attempted to flee the area. She sped off into an adjacent parking lot. The officer spotted the object dislodging from the car, and he realized the thing was actually a seriously wounded person.

The officer quickly called medical responders to the scene. The critically injured individual was rushed to a local hospital where they discovered life-threatening injuries.

Investigators attempted to reconstruct the accident and determined that the victim had been walking across an intersection when they were struck by the suspect’s vehicle. They believe the victim was passing a business’ driveway when they were hit, but authorities are asking anyone with any information related to this incident to contact them while they continue to investigate this pedestrian-related accident. The Collision Reconstruction Unit can be reached at 240-773-6620.

Police caught up with the suspect and promptly took her into custody. While lab tests haven’t confirmed officer’s suspicions yet, authorities do believe Machuca was under the influence of either alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. It remains unclear whether the suspect realized she had hit something or whether she knew she was dragging something with her car.
