The Washington Post reports that a man intentionally contracted the HIV virus so he could infect others. Stephen Koch, 25, is from Scranton, Arkansas, and admitted in court that he contracted HIV and intended to date without letting his partners know about his status. He also pleaded guilty to child pornography and drug charges.

Koch pleaded guilty to eight counts of distributing, possessing or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child; attempting to expose someone else to HIV and numerous drug charges.

He has been sentenced to 50 years in prison and must register as a sex offender. He is also required to participate in an offender treatment program while in prison.

It is unclear who is representing Koch. He was initially only charged with possession of methamphetamine with purpose to deliver, delivery of meth and possession of drug paraphernalia.

While investigating Koch, authorities discovered he had also been watching child pornography. Text messages were also found about his HIV status and the fact that he intended on spreading the virus.

Local authorities say that this is an excellent example of why parents need to talk to their children about engaging in sexual activity with an unknown person and explain the dangers of unprotected sex.
