Thomas Lyn Barringer has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault after killing a man with a shovel. On April 27th, Barringer allegedly smashed the victim’s face with a shovel. The victim was asleep when the attack occurred.

The victim, Andrew Massey, died as a result of his injuries. He was promptly transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Hospital staff were able to stabilize Massey, but the dramatic injuries resulted in his death about a week after his assault. The Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were able to identify a suspect after investigating the victim’s death. Police began hunting down the suspect, and a public search was launched to find him. Authorities warned the public not to approach the individual because he is believed to be dangerous. According to police officials, Barringer had only recently been released from prison before he initiated this unprovoked attack.

Barringer’s former prison stint was a result of stealing an automobile after breaking and entering into an individual’s home. When police attempted to stop him, the suspect fled into the woods. The incident resulted in a three-year prison sentence that concluded on April 2nd. According to the Department of Public Safety, Barringer was still under parole supervision when the brutal shovel attack happened.

Their search eventually led them to a Holiday Inn property near Lake Conroe. At 2 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team rushed the suspect’s hotel room. They successfully captured the dangerous suspect, but no charges have been filed yet. The motive is still unclear.
