People.com reports that Shannan Watts’ parents have filed a wrongful death suit against her husband, Chris.

Chris Watts was sentenced to three life terms without the chance of parole for murdering Shannan, who was pregnant, and their two young daughters. Shannan’s parents filed the suit the same day, and are seeking $100,000 in damages.

Frank and Sandra Rzucek named wrongful death and unlawful termination of Shannan’s pregnancy in the complaints against him.

Colorado prohibits such a case except when filed by the spouse of the deceased party, however Frank Rzucek was able to file against Watts as the representative of Shannan’s estate.

Watts, 33, publicly appealed for his family’s safe return after they went missing before he was arrested on August 15 and charged with their murders. He pleaded guilty to the murder charges on November 6. Prosecutors believe his motive was an extra-marital affair with one of his co-workers.
