The New York Daily News reports that a California mother of two has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for conspiring to murder her husband with her boyfriend.

Sabrina Limon, 37, was convicted of first-degree murder in October 2017, as well as solicitation of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and accessory to murder. The charges stemmed from the death of her husband, Robert Limon.

Robert was fatally shot in a rail yard in August 2014 by Sabrina’s boyfriend, Jonathan Heard. Investigators found that there was a plot hatched between the two lovers to kill Robert, which would allow them to get married and live happily ever after.

She initially denied any involvement, but evidence presented in court showed that she had multiple conversations with Heard about committing the murder.

Heard even testified against Sabrina, telling the court that she had tried to kill her husband months before without success. The initial plan was to poison Robert with arsenic in banana pudding, but Heard called him and told him not to eat it because he was afraid they would get caught.

Heard was sentenced to 25 years in prison in exchange for his testimony against Sabrina.

Further evidence presented at trial included tape recorded conversations between the two while they were discussing what Sabrina should tell police in the event she was questioned about the death of Robert.

Sabrina hired a new defense team after her conviction last year, which has argued that she should be given a new trial due to prosecutorial misconduct and ineffective counsel. The judge denied this motion for a new trial prior to sentencing Sabrina.
