Law & Crime reports that a Louisiana mother has been accused of recruiting her girlfriend to help murder her baby son.

Hannah Nicole Barker is currently being held in prison for the death of her 6-month-old son. She was arrested on July 25 and charged with first-degree murder. At her probation hearing last Friday, it was revealed that she had allegedly asked her girlfriend, Felicia Marie-Nicole Smith, to murder the boy.

The judge determined there was probable cause that Barker committed the crime, so she is being held without bond.

The baby was discovered with second-and third-degree burns to 90% of his body. He died at the hospital on July 18 after he was found abandoned in a wooded area near train tracks. Smith told investigators that Barker asked her to murder the baby. She initially refused, but then changed her mind and tried to shoot the boy. The gun was jammed, and police found a gun at her house with a bullet loaded backwards.

After the first attempt failed, Smith says Barker told her to burn him.

Barker’s attorney argued at the hearing that the only link between Barker and the murder is the statements of Smith.

Smith was indicted in August for first-degree murder. At that time, the grand jury wanted more evidence in the case against Barker.

Barker was convicted on an unrelated drug charge and is scheduled for another probation hearing on October 10.
