Jose Gilberto Rodriguez, a 46-year-old suspected serial killer, has just been taken into custody by the Houston Police Department after a vehicle pursuit.
Around 6:15 A.M. on July 17th, a sheriff’s deputy was patrolling the area when he noticed the suspect’s vehicle. The vehicle matched the description of Rodriguez’s car that police were searching for, so the officer attempted to pull the suspect over. The driver refused to comply, and a car chase ensued.
By 7 A.M., Rodriguez was taken into custody. Police discovered a firearm inside the vehicle. Police believe Rodriguez was involved in several unsolved crimes including three murders. The suspect is believed to be behind the Mattress Firm murders that took place around the stores in Houston. Despite the recent arrest, Mattress Frim has confirmed that their stores will be closed throughout July 17 to protect the safety of their workers. The company has also confirmed that they will be introducing additional security measures in their stores to prevent future occurrences. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez utilized his personal twitter account to call out the suspect for his alleged crimes. He stated that Rodriguez is “considered a serial killer, armed and dangerous.”
The suspect still has not yet been charged with murder, but he also the primary suspect in a separate robbery, shooting and home invasion. Police were able to successfully locate the suspect thanks to a neighborhood resident who called in about a suspicious vehicle matching the description of Rodriguez’s car.
