The SF Gate reports that the Golden State Killer suspect has now been charged with a 13th murder. Prosecutors filed the new charge on Monday for the 1975 murder of a man from Visalia.
Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, is being charged with first-degree murder for the shooting death of Claude Snelling, 45. Prosecutors say DeAngelo killed Snelling when he was trying to kidnap his daughter during a home invasion on September 11, 1975. DeAngelo also faces enhanced charges for the personal use of a firearm.
DeAngelo was arrested at his home in Sacramento in April, and this is the 13th homicide he has been charged with. Police believe he is the Golden State Killer, East Area Rapist and Original Night Stalker, all of which committed dozens of rapes in California and the Bay Area in the 1970s and ‘80s.
DeAngelo was originally caught by uploading his DNA profile to a genealogy website, which revealed several potential relatives of the suspect.
DeAngelo was a police officer during the years he was committing his spree of crimes.
