Inside Edition reports that a Kentucky woman has received a life sentence in prison for killing her ex-boyfriend. Shayna Hubers, now 27, fatally shot her ex in 2012 to prevent him from going on a date with another woman. She reportedly showed little to no emotion during her sentencing on Thursday last week. She was convicted of murdering Ryan Poston by fatally shooting him in the head, neck and torso six times.
Previously, Hubers wrote a letter to the judge expressing remorse for killing Poston, who was 29 when he was murdered. However, she has never expressed any remorse to the victim’s family.
Hubers shot Poston at his condo because he was going to date someone else according to prosecutors, but defense attorneys argue she shot him in self-defense.
Poston was reportedly pursuing the second runner-up in the 2012 Miss USA Pageant, Audrey Bolte. She testified she met him through Facebook and was to meet him for a drink the night he was murdered. Hubers apparently discovered the Facebook messages planning the date.
Prior to Hubers’ sentencing hearing, her defense team filed a motion for a mistrial, but that was denied by the court. This is the second time she was found guilty – after her first trial and conviction, it was thrown out because it was discovered that one of the jurors was a convicted felon and ineligible to serve. Her second jury found her guilty this August.
Since Hubers has already served six years in prison, she will be eligible for parole in 14 years.
