Jose Garcia has just been arrested by Los Angeles Police Department after being involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. The driver being charged in the accident was the only person in his vehicle. Just prior to 8 p.m. on April 28th, Garcia was speeding in his Nissan Xterra.

Excessive speeding may have contributed to Garcia’s failure to stop at a red light. While flying through the red light on West 76th street, his vehicle slammed into a Dodge Caravan. The Caravan was carrying a family of five including three small children.

The collision was so forceful that one of the cars immediately erupted into flames which caused the other vehicle to also catch fire. Tragically, three people passed away at the scene of the explosion. The victims have not yet been identified, but police have confirmed that the father, a six-year-old girl and an infant baby were all killed.

The nine-year-old boy and mother were both transported to a local hospital in critical condition. A witness, Jose Castellon, told news reporters how he saw the collision, grabbed a fire extinguisher and rushed to pull the woman and boy from the van. He was in the process of grabbing the other three family members when the van exploded.

One witness described to a local news reporter that she saw one of the children being transported from the burning vehicle to an ambulance. She described how the child’s body was blackened and charred. She explains, “his clothes had literally melted onto him.”

Mike Lopez, an Los Angeles Police officer, confirmed Garcia was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and suspicion of driving under the influence. The suspect was treated at a hospital before being released to the police. His bail has been set at $330,000.
