In a devastating tragedy, two police officers were shot in broad daylight while they were enjoying a meal in a Florida restaurant. Sgt. Noel Ramirez and Deputy Taylor Lindsey, the victims, were both casually dining at Ace China in Trenton, Florida when a deranged gunman shot them.

Initial reports suggested that the gunman had shot them from outside of the restaurant, but investigators later determined that the man was inside the building. Police have confirmed that the officers were on duty, but they had decided to eat while there was no crime in progress. They were both in their uniforms and armed when approached by the gunman. Neither police officer returned fire at the suspect, and witnesses collaborated the fact that the shooting occurred without warning and seemingly out of nowhere.

John Hubert Highnote has been identified by police as the shooter. The sheriff’s office confirmed Highnote was found deceased outside of the Chinese restaurant. The department posted information about the crime on its social media page. They explain that the shooting is still an active criminal investigation. Currently, investigators are still unclear about why this tragedy occurred, and they are searching for a motive.

Gilchrist County Sheriff Bobby Schultz expressed his opinion in a statement saying, “what do you expect happens when you demonize law enforcement?” Rick Scott, Governor of Florida, asked Floridians to honor the fallen police officers. He added that “it is true evil for anyone to hurt a law enforcement officer.” President Trump has tweeted out his condolences for the families of the victims killed while in the line of duty.
