Back in October of 2017, authorities were saddened to discover a young child washed up on a Texas beach. Investigators struggled to identify the youngster, so they decided to ask the public for assistance in solving the tragedy.
Police took an innovative step by deciding to digitally recreate a photograph of the child from the day he was discovered. Dubbed “Little Jacob” by media sources, the deceased boy’s photograph was published on multiple news stations and social media websites. The Galveston Police Department asked anyone with any information about the child to contact their office. Thankfully, several concerned citizens provided the police with promising leads.
These tipsters eventually helped identify the youngster as Jayden Alexander Lopez, a four-year-old. Further research revealed that the child had been living with his mother, 34-year-old Rebecca Rivera, and her girlfriend, 31-year-old Dania Sarai Amezuita Gomez, when he was located on the beach. Previous autopsy reports indicated the child had been severely abused before being discarded in the Gulf of Mexico, but police have not yet made details about the cause of death available to the public.
Both Rivera and Gomez have been charged with tampering with physical evidence, but officials have not confirmed whether Rivera was involved in the death of the four-year-old. Rivera’s bond is set as $260,000, while Gomez’s bond is $100,000.
When arresting the two suspects, police discovered an additional child living with the couple. The child was reportedly only three-years-old. Authorities did not find any evidence of harm when interviewing the boy, but he has been removed from the home and temporarily placed in state custody.
