The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has been successful in capturing eleven different individuals connected to an illegal child pornography ring in their operation called “Guardians of Innocence II.”
Several of the pedophiles captured by police were maintaining jobs with high levels of interactions with children. Those identified and detained include a Lego builder from Legoland, a Disney World employee and a parent helper working with the Boy Scouts.
The eleven suspects were able to amass an astonishing 660 felony charges combined. Every individual captured as a part of this operation will at the least be facing multiple serious chares of possession of child pornography.
Roger Catey, a 53-year-old from Davenport, was a costume department manager working at Disney World. Disney World has since released a statement explaining that they’ve fired the suspect. He had been watching online child pornography for over a year while working for the company, and the disturbing content on his computer involved children as young as three-years-old.
The Lego builder has been identified as 30-year-old Rickie Vargas-Garcia. Investigators determined that he was going online to trick younger girls into sending him sexual photographs. He would tell victims, some as young as eleven, that he was only an 18-year-old.
Another suspect, 69-year-old Donald Marich, is a retired teacher from Arizona. This suspect was also found to be visiting the Walt Disney World theme park alone for unknown reasons.
One suspect’s identity isn’t being released by police because he is a minor. The 16-year-old was caught with sexually fueled content of children as young as 12 to 24 months old. He was attending Haines City High School when officers learned he was downloading illegal material onto his Dropbox.
Investigators are continuing to examine evidence, identify victims and capture suspects in this ongoing operation. It’s likely that more charges will be filed as time reveals additional crimes.
