Nashville authorities uncovered a tragic situation when they learned one father was imposing unusual sanctions on his 10-year-old son. According to reports, the Nashville man was forcing his son to eat hot sauce and was hitting him with a lobster snare when he failed to live up to his standards for push-ups and sit-ups.

The disturbing incident was reported by Christopher Aschnewitz’s son when he arrived for school at Pennington Elementary. Staff called Metro Police who interviewed the 10-year-old. The arrest affidavit states that the boy was struggling to eat a spicy dinner due to digestion issues when his father snapped. As punishment for refusing dinner, the father made him perform push-ups and sit-ups. Unsatisfied with the boy’s performance, the father then made him eat a teaspoon of habanero sauce as “motivation” to complete the exercises. The boy told authorities that his father threatened to make him eat his own vomit if he threw up the hot sauce. The father allegedly denied water to the boy during and after the punishment.

After complying with eating the hot sauce, the 10-year-old was still unable to perform the exercises to the father’s standards. Aschnewitz allegedly beat his son with a three-foot lobster snare before sending the child to bed around midnight.

Investigators noted severe bruising to the child’s upper legs and buttocks region during their interview. Police also say the child’s statements were consistent during interviews with teachers and detectives.

Christopher Aschnewitz is being charged with aggravated child abuse, but he is currently free on bail.
